Kaage Architects is led by principal architect Irv Kaage, RA. With more than 25 years of design experience, Irv has worked across a wide range of projects, including custom homes, senior living communities, Alzheimer’s care facilities, financial institutions, universities, restaurants, retail, and mixed use buildings.

Known for his appreciation of traditional and classical architectural styles, Irv’s work is grounded in dramatic rooflines/massing, material character, thoughtful detailing, and respect for the individuality of each project.

Irv guides clients through the design process with a steady hand, a strong work ethic, and a light-hearted demeanor that helps make the experience both productive and enjoyable. His understanding of structure, proportion, materials, and craft allows him to translate each client’s priorities into architecture that is beautiful, functional, and enduring.

Outside the studio, Irv is an amateur arborist with a love for Japanese Hinoki cypress trees. He has cultivated thousands of trees and is working toward the establishment of a Hinoki forest in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. He is also pursuing a master’s degree in Divinity and is the author of The Spiritual Mind, a forthcoming book that brings an architect’s eye for order, structure, and beauty to questions of spiritual life.
